German Chocolate Chess Squares

These chocolate, brownie bars are nothing short of wonderful! Try them today! By the way, don't be scared by the title and think that there is coconut in this recipe...there isn't...for those of you who don't like it! (Myself included.)

1 package German chocolate cake mix (with pudding in the mix)
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
__________________________

1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
2 large eggs
1 (16 oz.) package powdered sugar, sifted

Combine first 4 ingredients in a large bowl, stirring until dry ingredients are incorporated. Press into bottom of a greased 9 x 13 pan. Set aside.

Combine cream cheese, 2 eggs and 1 cup powdered sugar. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until blended. Gradually add remaining powdered sugar, beating after each addition. Pour over chocolate layer, spreading evenly.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Cool compltely on a wire rack and cut into squares.

Makes 1 1/2 dozen squares. (or less if you cut them big like I do!)
